Hour 1: The Empire Building Habit

By Jonathan Roseland  Connect

Empire Building

The 1st working hour of your day is 100% committed towards building your empire without distraction.

Building your empire means working for yourself, on the projects that are ultimately going to reward you with freedom. For a lot of us this means working on our small businesses, developing our own brands, products, systems and marketing. If you are a career professional it could mean developing your hard skill sets. If you are a writer it means turning blank white pages into art. If you are an athlete it means training, hitting the gym or getting coaching.

Lifehacking Your Internal Dialog: Use Silly Voices

By Jonathan Roseland  Connect

This 35 minute video explains, exhaustively and hilariously, the personal development benefits of using silly voices in your internal dialog. To summarize: everyone has an internal dialog that they use to make sense of their experiences, relationships and emotions, we can gain more mastery of our thoughts and actions by substituting silly voices or humorous character archetypes. This is a lot times significantly more effective than 'reframing' or just trying to 'think positively'.

As you can see in the video it's also A LOT of fun! Possibly more importantly it instantly reframes negative thought patterns into humorous, jovial lines of thought that you can laugh at.

Hardwork X Stress Management X Passion for Processes X Time = Peak Experiences

By Jonathan Roseland  Connect

PeakExpierencesIn the video below Tyler of RSD, proposes that there are two different kinds of people in the world:

  1. Peak Experience Junkies, like Tyler, who need to travel to awesome places, eat at amazing restaurants, have the most interesting friends, hang out at the hottest nightclubs, have a ridiculous sex life and accomplish big goals in business to enjoy life.
  2. Amusement Junkies, those who are happy with a life full of things like watching TV, drinking beer, smoking marijuana, hanging out with their family, playing video games, etc.

I don't think you are born one way or another, the biggest variable is how people manage their stress. Everyone has the potential to be a Peak Experience Junkie. Why wouldn't you want to be one? Consider this your invite to the Peak Experience Junkie Club!

Tyler talks a lot in his videos about:

  • Exercise
  •  Mediation
  •  Proper Diet
  •  Mindset Management
  •  Introspection
  •  Reading Books

He is doing a text book job of managing his stress and as a result he has the energy to work really hard. Compare this to the person who isn't managing their stress like Tyler. They need the 2 hours of TV a day, the marijuana, the video games or whatever to deal with their stress.

Tyler uses sexual experiences as (sometimes vulgar - You've been warned!) examples but this PG-13 Youtube is worth a watch for anyone seeking Peak Experiences.

Stop Being Lazy: 17 Lifehacks for Beating Chronic Laziness

By Jonathan Roseland  Connect

Laziness2017 Update: Laziness is a symptom of a fundamental lack of willpower. Willpower isn't a very sexy subject (although I tried to make it one...) but willpower is the ultimate lifehack because if you have willpower you get to have anything else you desire.

  • If you don't have willpower, you probably don't realize how important it is to your happiness.
  • If you don't have willpower, you won't practice the hard habits you need to practice to acquire more willpower.
  • If you don't have willpower, you'll continually fail to meet your goals and you'll live a life of quiet desperation.
  • If you don't have willpower, you can't get it by reading self help books or listening to inspiring podcasts. Sorry!

Smart drugs give you willpowerFast. 25-45 minutes after consumption the Nootropic agents will cross your blood brain barrier boosting the neurotransmitters Serotonin, Dopamine and ACh which will noticeably improve your self control for 4-6 hours.
After trying over 70 different smart drugs, I found one that I call the Discipline Molecule; more than any other Nootropic I've tried, I just do 100% of what I know I should be doing when I'm on this drugClick here to get a detailed report on this smart drug and some infotaining videos analyzing what human studies are saying about the Discipline Molecule.

I think that the human capacity for invention, creativity, collaboration and generosity multiplied by the steep growth curves in technology have a real chance in the next 50 years of eradicating poverty, war, hunger, disease, environmental issues, lack of education, even aging and death.

There's also a good chance that 50 years from now we will have all the same problems, except multiplied by another two billion humans. The greatest variable in this is laziness and indifference.

complicated-problem-lazinessAs much as human beings are creative and inventive we have a boundless capacity for laziness and indifference. If we can overcome these flaws in our psychology 50 years from now we will see these demons vanquished from the world.

By the End of this Article...

Laziness is a complicated problem that we face as individuals. This article will present actionable solutions for beating laziness in yourself and minimizing it in the organizations and communities to which you contribute. These solutions will go way beyond the generic platitudes about hard work, motivation and laziness.

I Did Business with Insane People: 4 Stories of Psychopathy, Ego & Ambition

By Jonathan Roseland  Connect

The word insane is drastically over used, for everything from mild moodiness and irritability to emotional changes. That's not what this article is about, these are four stories of times I did business with people who where unwell psychologically. Sometimes I ask myself whether it's a degree of insanity within myself that has attracted these people and circumstances or whether it's just a matter of dumb luck that I've been quite intimately ensconced in business 4 separate times with people varying from unstable addicts to genuinely demented... I'm leaning more towards the former than the latter. In addition to being entertaining I hope that these stories can educate you on how to identify the tale-tale signs of insanity in the charming, persuasive people you are considering doing business with.

Cognitive Traps of Happiness: 4 Lifehacks for Well-Being

By Jonathan Roseland  Connect

In the TED Talk below Dr. Daniel Kahneman, Inventor of Behavioral Economics, explains how our happiness is determined and sometimes distorted by what he describes as our two selves.

Actionable Take-Aways
The Way a Story EndsvacationIt's very important that we are conscious of the way a story ends in our memories. A bad ending can make our remembering self permanently unhappy about an otherwise very happy experience. Therefor it's essential to recognize and compartmentalize a negative ending to what's going to be a memory narrative. A personal experience: This year I took the coolest vacations of my life: While traveling from Central to South America, I spent 4 days in the surreal San Blas Islands (in between Panama and Colombia), it was a time of relaxation on sunny beaches, meeting the locals of the islands (and even learning a little of their language), eating great food, drinking fine wine and rum by bonfires, making new friends and snorkeling in clear waters. However it ended with two fairly disastrous events: 1) At the border crossing my passport was almost ruined by water damage 2) Our first night in Colombia we got robbed.
When these two events happened I made a conscious decision to categorize them as simply part of the risks of travel, and not include them in my mental narrative of the San Blas Islands vacation.
Memory Anticipation Feedback Loops - Our Remembering Self is the one in charge of making decisions, it makes decisions based upon future anticipated memories. We derive a lot of happiness from these 'self-fulfilling prophesies', so if there's a decision you need to make, imagine yourself being happy in the future reflecting on the decision.
Spend Time with People You Like - and who make you feel good about yourself. It's the most significant measurable factor of happiness.
Make it to $60K - It's turns out money does buy happiness, but the happiness-to-income correlation flattens out at $60K a year for Americans and other comparable countries. So do whatever it takes to get your income to $60K yearly but after that focus on other areas of your life to maximize happiness.
Thought Experiment: At the end of a vacation all your pictures are going to be destroyed and you will receive a drug that gives you amnesia. All your memories of the vacation are going to be destroyed. Would you choose the same activities? If so then it illustrates a significant difference between the way your Remembering Self and your Experiencing Self perceives happiness.
