American Gods
Ⓒ By Jonathan Roseland |
This fantasy novel has a great premise and Neil Gaiman characterizes well the "warp and weft" of my country but ultimately falls far short of its potential in critiquing the overthrow of America's "old Gods" by newer ones.
The book gets just two stars for me - I deduct stars for...
The conspicuous and inexplicable absence of Christianity
The protagonist being such a bland, one-dimensional character
The failure to explore deeper philosophical themes
In this podcast with my witty (and pretty) wife, we go deep into the philosophy that its themes and characters hint at.
Mentioned
Who are the mythological deities of American Gods?
