The combination of substances that are in these pills are sufficient for increased mental focus and concentration although when combined with nootropics, which are naturally occurring cognitive stimulants, the effects are multiplied by at least 15 times. I’d recommend starting with piracetam, as this is a less potent no-tropic.
Neuro-Optimizer is nutrition for the brain, combining CDP Choline (cytidine 5-diphoscholine, also known as Citicoline), Phosphatidylserine, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Acetyl L-Carnitine, L-Glutamine and Taurine to enhance brain metabolism and antioxidant protection. Citicoline (CDP-Choline) is a naturally occurring, water-soluble biological compound that is an essential intermediate for the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a major constituent of the gray matter of brain tissue (30%). Citicoline promotes brain metabolism by enhancing the synthesis of acetylcholine and restoring phospholipid content in the brain. PS (Phosphatidylserine) supports the brains physiological processing of stress and promotes neuronal communication by its effect on cell membrane fluidity. The antioxidants Acetyl L-Carnitine, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Taurine provide protection for the neuronsfrom damage caused by certain free radicals. Acetyl L-Carnitine,Alpha Lipoic Acid and L-Glutamine also support energy utilizationby their effects on fatty acid metabolism, oxidative decarboxylationand gluconeogenesis. Taurine also aids in osmoregulation (maintenance of proper concentrations of ions) inside the cell. I tried this supplement in multiple dosages and never felt any neuro optimizing effects. I tried up to 4 capsules daily without any effect. My focus and productivity was certainly no better on Neuro Optimizer, in fact I noticed a couple times that a few hours after taking it I would get a post lunch/mid afternoon energy lull. This should not happen on a legitimate Nootropic. This is surprising to me since it does contain Tuarine, a common ingredient in energy drinks.
I had originality listed Neuro Optimizer on my article I did on most credible supplements since it had a higher amount of reviews on Amazon that ranked it at 3.9 Stars. However based upon my own personal experience and the experiences of a few friends that I had try it, I think that it's Amazon rating is probably a result of placebo effect or possibly faked reviews.
I'm also a little bothered that it has no money back guarantee policy.
Placebo effect and cost hypothesis: Clever marketers have known for years that charging more for your product makes people expect more from it. In the case of Nootropic supplements, a more expensive Nootropic is more likely to prompt a positive placebo effect in the consumer. Since most of the Nootropic manufactures send me their products for free I think I am some what insulated from placebo effect and can give a more objective review of these supplements.
At it's $50 price point I think it's prompting a positive placebo effect that is why it's amazon reviews are more positive than mine.
